Windows Media Player

A proprietary software, Windows Media Player can be used for playing audio files and viewing images and videos on PCs running the Microsoft Windows OS. Though Microsoft has made available versions for other operating systems (Pocket PC, Solaris), these tend to trail behind the Windows version when it comes to frequency of software update, features, and the number of supported file formats. Windows Media Player’s basic file formats are WMA (Windows Media Audio), WMV (Windows Media Video & Audio), ASF (Advanced Streaming Format), and WPL (Windows Playlist). Windows Media Player 10 is its most stable version.

With Windows Media Player 10, you can. . .

Discover

Tune in and trip out with the Radio Tuner—where you can search for radio stations by location, format, call sign, language, artist, and frequency. Users can readily gain access to 2,000 stations and content providers including news and talk radio.

Download your choice of music and movie files. When your hard drive’s full to bursting, you can then burn the files via Windows Media Player. Then you have ready CDs for that long road trip. You can also rip CDs (copy music) and convert them into music files.

Organize

Create and manage playlists with Windows Media Player’s Smart Jukebox. This feature reduces the hassle in managing your digital media collection, however big it is. You can search and sort in a flash, for instant and non-stop playback experience at home or in a happening block party.

Play

You can personalize Windows Media Player skins to suit your personality or mood for the day. The funky interface has enhanced animation and functionalities that complete your aural-visual trip.
